Let us introduce you to Marina. At 15, Marina should have been laughing with friends over inside jokes or choosing songs to add to her playlist. Instead, her days were overshadowed by an unbearable weight she couldn’t share. 

For three years, Marina endured unspeakable abuse at the hands of her father. Isolated from her family and paralyzed by fear, she was manipulated into believing she could trust no one but him. Silenced and alone, Marina carried the weight of this burden, doing everything she could to shield her younger sister from the same harm. Trapped and hopeless, she longed for a way out. 

One day Marina summoned the courage to tell someone and was referred to the CARE House. From the moment she walked through the door of the CARE House, Marina was met by compassionate professionals who investigated the abuse and connected her with the support she needed. Through counseling, Marina began to process her trauma, rebuild her confidence, and reclaim her voice. A trained Advocate guided her through the challenging legal process, explaining every step and offering unwavering support. 

Today, Marina’s future is full of promise. With her trauma behind her, she has graduated from college, started her career, and strengthened her relationship with her sister. She is thriving in her independence and embracing a life free from fear. “The CARE House helped me learn how to live,” she shares. “They taught me how to communicate, identify dependable thoughts, and that my voice matters. For the first time, I feel free.”
